A special moment in life... seeing your baby's face for the first time. Well, our photojournalist extraordinair Adam Knapik, and his wife Corinna, let me tag along as for that special moment at First View Ultrasound. They got a 3 and 4 dimensional look at their unborn son, Ben. But this isn't the regular old black and white skeletol images that parents are used to. The Knapiks got to see their son's cheeks, nose, and even his yawn. So
please enjoy this story. It was fun for all of us, including those in utero as Adam likes to say.

Everyone who lives in Colorado knows that this has been one wild winter. The repeat snowfall, the cold, the wind... and me being in the news bus, well, it means I've been out in all of it. The cold, the snow, the wind. Valentine's Day, it actually wasn't too bad outside. Just another
cold, snowy day in Colorado.

After seeing a car seat technician put all his weight into a car seat in order to pull the seat belt tight enough to lock it safely... well, that's I realized how difficult it really is to get a car seat intalled correctly. I feel bad for my mother now. If you're a parent, here's some tips on
Car seat safety.

The story of
3 year old Gracie, a young child who's battling leukemia, was in inspiration. Not only did it bring the news reporter, the photographer, and all of the teachers in the room to tears, but it made a deep impact on the students of Vera Scott Elementary. Those studnets adpoted Gracie and have vowed to raise money for her medical treatments and expenses. I was graced to be in the room as they met her for the first time. Gracie was diagnosed with cancer last July and is not quite half-way through of her chemotherapy treatments. A heartbreaking, but an overwhelmingly uplifting story. It's reasons like this I got into the news business -- to be able to share real-life stories of strength, determination, and bravery... this one from a child nonetheless. Thank you to Gracie and to her family for their courage in sharing so much with me. And kudos to the students at Scott Elementary who are embarking on a journey of unselfish devotion and giving to another child. Hopefully by telling this story, we help to make a small difference in Gracie's path to recovery and, at the very least, empower someone else.

You would think people know that the quickest way to get your vehicle stolen is to leave your keys in the ignition and your car running. Well, as I found in my report,
Fountain police report car theft problem, that is certainly not the case. You'll be amazed to see the number of people who make their vehicles into eye candy for thieves. So ask yourself this question, is keeping your car warm for a few minutes worth the hassle it could create for a quick stop at a convenience store? Some people told me they like risky living... but I must say, the folks I ambushed with questions were unexpectedly pleasant.

Colorado drivers can vouch for this... it seems you can't go anywhere without hitting or avoiding a pot hole or two. We can thank our freeze-thaw cycle this winter for that. Well, those pot holes are creating some big problems, for drivers and for their vehicles. Because seeing the bill after driving through a large enough pot hole can make your wheels start spinning. See what I mean in
Pot hole problem called "huge".

At this point, the Castle West Apartment fire was burning for about 29 hours, and we were still seeing eight to ten foot flames. Still no cause, no arrests, and many victims still unaccounted for. The records of the residents were burried in the managers office. See my report on the fire that wouldn't quit smoldering in
Fire still burns day later.

A massive apartment fire at the Castle West Apartment complex left hundreds of people homeless. I arrived on the scene shortly after 2 in the morning... the fire blazing for more than an hour already. Our amazing photographer Adam Knapik captured some spectacular video of the flames tearing through 3 buildings of this apartment complex. A heartbreaking scene; people in pajamas, wrapped blankets in sub-zero temperatures, some in socks walking to shelter in ankle-foot water. Firefighters covered in ice from head to toe. The strength of that department can be summed up in one word -- impressive. I spoke with a young man who threw his pit bull out his third story window and then followed suit to flames peaking through a black wall of smoke that filled his home. I watched as people stood in silence amidst the blare of fire engines and the roar of the flames. And looked on as their memories, hard work, and dreams burned away. As a journalist, this is one for the books. As a human being, this is an experience I will never forget.

Well, the first blizzard of December 2005 was a major setback, not just for drivers... but for shoppers! And the mall closed just days to go until Christmas. Can you believe it? Have no fear, the shoppers were back out in full force the day after, and the retailers were trying to make up for lost time. Check out:
Blizzard causes holiday shopping woes.
